I could clean the house, or get ready for tomorrow.

I could sit outside in the breezy sunshine, or go for a walk.

I could tell you how much I’m going to miss you tomorrow.

I could wallow with regret over the responsibility that will pull me away from you. I could rage over the fallacious idea that 12 fleeting weeks is somehow adequate.

I know you need me as much as I need more of you. I know you will be safe and loved as you are today, and have been every day since your birth, but it is no consolation.

None of that will change our place in this world.

Instead, I will lie with you, a napple on the couch, for as long as you wish.

Your little body curled just so on mine.

I will study your eyelashes and the shape of your lips in deep sleep, your mouth always slightly agape.

I will kiss your hands and your cheeks.

I will smell your skin and marvel in your perfection.

I will absorb your weight and wonder about your dreams as you sigh and smile. I will tell you about all the amazing things in the world.

I will live in this moment together with you. Even though with tonight’s sunset, our first few weeks of undisturbed proximity come to a close, it is only the prologue to our story.

Tomorrow begins a new chapter in a story of love and adventure, of learning and closeness. The sun will rise tomorrow, I will love you a little more just as I did this morning.
